Net Literacy Overview

The purpose of this self paced, online course is:
1. Provide MBA students with fluency in web based tools, essential for career success.
2. Intorduce 'research' methods in support of the thesis requirement.

The course has a number of phases and assignments for each phase:

  • Set Up
  • Collection
  • Curation
  • Collaboration
  • Presentation

The overview session will present basics - alternatives and mobile options will be posted here, in the resource blog.

There are numerous phases + an assignment for each phase. Please complete the assignments by January 10. Send me the link for the blog you plan to use by Dec 17 - thinkfun@gmail.com

Set Up

1. Set up a Gmail account to use to as a collection point for all your materials + as a single sign in to the required tools.

2. Set up an account in each platform:

Assignment - Link your Netvibes using 'gadgets' in your Net Literacy blog; take a screenshot of EACH of the other accounts and post it in the blog.

Collection

1. In your Gmail account, set up Google Alerts for selected topics

2. Go to a blog or media site of interest, follow via Twitter - sample directory

3. Go to a blog or media site of interest, set up an RSS feed to your Netvibes - sample

4. Set up your 'kiosk' in Paper.li - sample on Augmented Reality

Assignment -

Take a screenshot of each platform and post them on your Net Literacy blog.

Curation

Now you will have a variety of information coming to you - here are a few tips to help you sort + keep ONLY what is relevent .

1. Read only headlines - use a mobile tool, if possible.

2. Delete any alerts and Twitter followers that are noise...be rigorous.

3. Use your blog to collect links and notes on that article/site.

4. Set up a Google doc to collect links and notes - use key words so that it is searchable.

Assignment -

Take a screenshot of your Google doc or blog (with links + notes), post in your Net literacy blog.

3. Jing

You will use these tools in the Digital Marketing class.
